Amaka Okocha, the youngest child of a renowned sculptor known as Omenka, is a living embodiment of her father’s artistic legacy and more. Her boundless creativity knows no limits, and her devotion to her work is tangible. With a rich self-taught background in fashion, she meticulously creates breathtaking pieces from distinctive African fabrics, a testament to her creative prowess. As an artist and painter, she can metamorphose any space into a masterpiece, infusing a unique, imaginative, and awe-inspiring touch that echoes her unwavering dedication and passion.
Amaka’s journey into the world of creativity began at a young age, from braiding hair at 10 to exploring various artistic avenues. Each decade of her life has brought forth remarkable ideas and new art techniques. She has proven herself to be a ‘jack of all trades’ and a master of all, showcasing her adaptability and versatility. She modestly refers to herself as a vessel for God’s creativity, a mere pencil in His hands. Indeed, Amaka wears a hat adorned with many feathers, symbolizing her multifaceted talents.
Amaka’s journey took a turn when she moved to Canada in 2008. Although she left her passion for interior design behind, it was rekindled in 2012 while constructing their second home in Fort McMurray, Alberta. She took on the role of Project Manager, overseeing the entire construction and ensuring quality. In 2020, a new passion was born: acrylic, resin, and geode painting. Painting is therapeutic for Amaka, a tool she has used to help individuals with emotional collapse.
A MESSAGE FROM AMAKA
Are you determined to change things in your life? How comfortable are you where you think you are currently? As a child, I realized from a young age that I must create my reality because it can never come from nothing. First, you must dream it and see every step solidified. Never be afraid to try anything new; there will definitely be failures but keep trying; every success has encountered failure. Life has taught me to create uniqueness from every work of my hand, and I call it a “BLESSING, GRACE and FAVOUR.” You can be anything you want; the power of being lies in your hand. A journey of a mile starts with a step; take that bold step, get out of your comfort zone and do something different, and you will forever be grateful for the final result.
Every individual has a passion; find yours and run with it. I found mine and am still discovering brand-new ones. We are unstoppable.
